||The Belgian American Society of New England (BASNE) is a nonprofit organization, whose primary mission is to help Belgians, and others interested in Belgium, meet and get to know each other, at a variety of social and cultural events.
It was founded in April 1990 by the Hon. Philippe Capiau (deceased), former Honorary Consul of Belgium to New England. It served as model for the creation of the other Belgian American groups which sprung up throughout the Nation
To give you an idea of the kinds of events held, there is a Belgian Waffle Breakfast usually hosted near the end of January, a Saint Nicholas Party for the kids in December, a Spring Reception in April, and an Apple Picking event and Annual Dinner in the fall. In the past we have had group visits to Museums and Concerts where Belgian artists were featured. We participated in the French Library's Belgian Month, including our participation by conducting a special tasting of Belgian beers.
